Simply described by Braun as their most advanced shaving system ever, this series includes 5 models, two are wet/dry options, and three which come complete with Braun’s cleaning dock system.

This new Braun series 9, has continued on from the all conquering Series 7, in a quest for the ultimate in close shaves, with the lowest possible skin irritation.
The first thing we noticed when we started our Braun Series 9 Electric Shaver review, is that it is beautifully designed. From its’ sleek, ergonomically designed grip, and digital readout, to its all new SyncroSonic shaving head, and exclusive, alcohol based, 5 stage clean and charge station.
New Improved Shaving Head
Like the series 7, this new Braun Series 9 range offers a pivoting shaver head, but the head itself has been further developed.
The new SyncroSonic head combines 4 separate operating elements. Each floats independently, and when combined with the pivoting head , gives the ultimate in responsiveness to facial contours.
The four elements include two shaving foils (like the Series 7), but now there are also two separate trimmers. The first , the Hyper Lift and Cut Trimmer, lifts and cuts flat lying hairs, particularly around the neck and chin, which are most difficult areas to shave effectively.
The newly added “Direct and Cut” trimmer captures hairs growing in any direction for easy, close cutting. These hairs are normally difficult to manage in a single pass but this added trimmer means more of the hairs are cut in the one pass, minimizing the need to repeatedly cover the same area, in turn reducing skill irritation and razor burn.
This new head produces 40,000 cross cutting actions per minute, allowing it to deal with 2 or 3 day growth much faster.
Sonic Technology
Another feature is Brauns’ “Intelligent Sonic Technology” which emits 10,000 vibrations every minute. The Braun series 9 razor uses these to read the contours of your face, and adjust to your beard’s density.
Waterproof vs Wet/Dry Shaving
As previously mentioned, each of the 5 models is fully waterproof, but only two models are designed for wet shaving. The first of these, the 9040s comes without the cleaning system, whilst the 9095cc model has the cleaning and charging system included.
Optional, 5 Step Cleaning/Charging System
Braun invented the cleaning dock, and still has the only cleaning system on the market, that uses an alcohol based liquid to clean and sanitize your new Electric Razor after each use.
The cleaning dock also fully dries your shaver as well as charging it so that it is fresh, clean and ready for its next use.
Re-charge/Shaving time
With or without the charging dock, a series 9 razor gives you up to 50 minutes of cordless shaving on a one hour recharge.
A large LED display indicates the battery level (and hygiene status in models with the cleaning dock).
On board power storage is via a powerful Li-Lon battery with no “memory effect”, which would otherwise reduce battery performance over time.
The shaver can be used either corded or cordless, and comes with a cleaning brush and protective travel pouch included.
Conclusion
The Braun Series 9 electric shaver offers an elegant shaving solution. It combines sleek design, with more cutting edge technology from one of the world’s premier electric razor manufacturers. Fully designed and made in Germany, this range is still difficult to buy outside of Europe, but some models can now be purchased on Amazon.
If you want a wet shaver simply choose the 9040s (without the cleaning dock), or the 9095cc (with the dock)
For the dry version, choose 9090cc (Silver shaver with dock), the 9050cc (if you prefer a black shaver with the cleaning dock), or choose the 9030s for a dry shaver without a cleaning dock.
As with all newly released technologies, the initial price is noticeably higher, but early user feedback suggests that this shaver is likely to set a new benchmark for foil shavers.
This is probably the finest foil shaver ever made. So if price is no option go for it, if not just wait a while as the price is sure to fall over time.

Is this shaver quieter than the Series 7-790cc? I found the Series 7 shaver to be too noisy, particularly when shaving near the sideburns. The cleaning unit was also very noisy. Any improvement with the Series 9?
