How to Use an Epilator for Men With Less Pain

Man with body hairsSome men would like to find a hair removal method that lasts longer than shaving.  Laser hair removal is one option, but it’s very expensive and could cost you thousand dollars, and who wants to spend that kind of money? How about waxing? Waxing is mostly done at a clinic and I don’t want that, and it’s also expensive. I want to remove my body hair in the comfort and privacy of my own home. So I choose epilating and it does fit the bill if you are looking for longer lasting, hair free result. If you haven’t come across the term-“epilating?  Epilating is done by using an epilator to remove hairs by grasping multiple hairs simultaneously and pulling them out!  Yes, it sounds like it’s going to hurt, and to be honest it really does, especially if you’re not accustomed with this method of hair removal. The result however is really worth it, (that’s why many women use Eiplators) and you’ll be hair free for weeks. Some epilator brands even claim that one application lasts up to six weeks. You can get a reliable epilator for less than a hundred dollars and normally use it once every 2-3 weeks.
Does epilating  really hurt?

So the real challenge is, how do we lessen the pain, and fortunately, there are several ways to reduce discomfort when epilating.

TIP #1: DO NOT go rushing in and use you new Epilator as soon as you buy it. Why? Because Epilators basically do not work well on longer hairs, so it will hurt a darn sight more if you just jump in. The number one epilating tip – is to first shave the area you’re planning to epilate, you can use an electric shaver or a manual razor for this. After shaving, you have to wait until hairs grow back a few millimeters. Now you can start epilating without waking the neighbours. Read the instruction manual of your epilator and follow the recommended minimum length. For me, after shaving the area I want to epilate, I just wait for a day. So the day after a shave, epilating is less of a shock.

TIP #2: Take a nice hot shower before epilating. This can reduce the level of pain that you’ll experience substantially. This is highly recommended.

TIP #3: Most epilators don’t work well on wet skin. So dry your skin with a clean towel and make sure it is dry before epilating.

TIP #4: Apply some talc or baby powder. This makes the hairs stand up so the tweezers inside your epilator can grab them more easily.

TIP #5: Do not go fast? There are times that you have to go fast if it really does hurt. Remember, that its best to use the epilator slowly across the skin to give the epilator the time to grab all hairs and carefully pulls them out. For first time users, it will still be uncomfortable this way. Obviously if you are impatient, try going quicker, see how it feels. and if you can tolerate the pain.  You might need to spped up in the more sensative areas, just to get it over with quickly, sometimes you just have to get through it. Your Epilator can still grab the hairs if you move faster, but you will have to go back and do more strokes , so its hard to say which way is best.. Remember to use your free hand to stretch the skin to flatten it out. Using an Epilator is less painful when used on flat surfaces.

TIP #6: I normally don’t take paracetamol or aspirin before epilating, but there are some people who swear that it helps. So you can also give this a try.

It is probably best to epilate at night as you will normally leave sore red areas of skin. Ordinarily after about 30 minutes, the redness will have  disappeared.

Once you are done epilating, its advisable to apply some decent moisturizer on your skin. Something you know won’t irritate you’re newly opened pores.

Choose an Epilator with less painful reviews

Emjoi AP-18MS Emagine Epilator for MenUsing epilators does hurt, but some epilators hurt more than others as they work differently. There are epilators that have spiral wires built into them which rotate, in order to trap hairs as they spin, before it pulls the hairs out. Other models use multiple rotating discs, while the third group of epilators are still using what are basicaly multiple tweezers that pull the hair out individually. Unfortunately, users provide mixed reports of pain levels with various epilating mechanism. This makes it hard to tell which epilation mechanism is the least painful. The best thing to do, if possible, is to try different epilators and see which one is best for you, before before buying one, but that’s hard to do. So the best solution is to get an epilator that features a unique inbuilt pain relief technology. Some epilators features a cooling device that lessens the pain and other funky epilators even come with built-in massagers that also have been proven to effectively reduce discomfort. Sadly, men have fewer choices available than women because there are not as many epilators on the market made specifically for men. We recommend Emjoi AP-18MS epilator for men. This is the first epilator on the market that is designed for men. It features 72 tweezers that are mounted on a cool touch metal head. Being specifically made for me, this is one of the best choices you can make, although it does not support cordless use. I you don’t mind using a woman’s epilator (and many men are now using them), then we highly recommend the Braun Silk- Epil 7 Xpressive epilator (#1 Best Seller in Hair Removal Epilators) or Philips HP6576 Satin Perfect Deluxe epilator. Both epilators feature a massage system and are included in Amazon’s Top 3 most highly rated epilators.
